Revit 2024 Setup Disappeared? Here’s What It Means — and How It’s Properly Fixed

Revit 2024 Setup Missing or Disappeared – Known Issue and Supported Resolution

Applies to

  • Autodesk Revit 2024

  • Windows 10 / Windows 11

  • Autodesk Access deployments

  • Engineering, architecture, and construction environments

Issue Description

In some environments, Autodesk Revit 2024 appears installed but its setup, repair, or modify options are missing.
Common symptoms include:

  • Revit 2024 does not launch

  • Setup / Modify / Repair options are unavailable

  • Autodesk Access shows Revit as installed, but setup files are missing

  • Reinstallation attempts fail or loop

  • Repair actions complete instantly without effect

This issue is not caused by Revit itself, but by a failure in Autodesk’s installation framework.

Root Cause

Revit 2024 relies on Autodesk On-Demand Install Service (ODIS) to manage installation, repair, and updates.

If ODIS becomes:

  • Corrupted

  • Partially removed

  • Version-mismatched

  • Blocked by security software

Revit loses access to its setup components, resulting in a broken but registered installation state.

Supported Resolution (High-Level)

Important: This issue cannot be reliably resolved by reinstalling Revit alone.

The supported remediation requires:

  1. Full removal of Autodesk ODIS components

  2. Reinstallation of ODIS in a clean state

  3. Reinstallation of Revit 2024 after installer services are restored

If any of these steps fail or are performed out of order, the issue will persist.

Due to the system-level impact of ODIS, this process should be executed via remote technical intervention.

Common Missteps to Avoid

  • Reinstalling Revit without addressing ODIS

  • Using registry scripts found online

  • Manually deleting Autodesk folders without service cleanup

  • Running multiple Autodesk installers simultaneously

  • Attempting repair while ODIS services are not operational

These actions often worsen the condition or affect other Autodesk products.

When to Escalate

Escalation is recommended when:

  • Revit is used in a production environment

  • Multiple Autodesk products are installed

  • The device is company-managed

  • Reinstallation attempts have already failed

  • Project deadlines are impacted
